My art is an archival collection of diasporic identity politics that deeply intersects with queer theory. By unpacking memories, I ask how learned conventions have insidiously impacted my current being. I consider my art practice to be my mirror: my art is constantly learning, unlearning, and questioning with me.

This practice of creative, vulnerable introspection can be described as a form of recordkeeping. The idea of archiving is expanded through recoloring the nostalgic puzzle pieces of my identity. Most of my pieces utilize high saturation colors with haphazard lines. In addition, I approach my illustrations with many traditional textures, which are manipulated digitally. In this form of controlled collage, I attempt to translate the convoluted experiences of childhood.

The childlike figures in my paintings are expressions of the self, running rampant, emoting as they must. Another through line in my work is the use of comedy as a reaction, reinterpreting visceral reactions in order to search for courage: the courage to stand up and move forward. Therefore, the jubilance of my visual puzzles operate as a vehicle to make the layered, creative interpretations. I am an artist who wants their audience to feel joy.
